In a tragic and harrowing case from Michigan, 33-year-old Amanda Maison has pleaded guilty to second-degree homicide in connection with the death of her 3-year-old son, Matthew Maison. He died in February 2018 in Port Huron Township.
According to prosecutors, the case began when babysitters found Matthew unresponsive in his bed. The investigation revealed years of abuse, and it is alleged that Amanda and her then-boyfriend Maurice Houle killed the child with the motive of “making room for a child that the two of them could have together.”

During her court appearance on November 5, Amanda admitted to physically abusing Matthew, including pushing his head into a wall during a “military style” time-out. She also admitted to facilitating and concealing Houle’s abuse and misleading authorities about the nature of Matthew’s death.
As part of her plea deal, Amanda has agreed to testify against Houle in his upcoming trial, scheduled for early 2026. Houle faces a first-degree murder charge. Amanda’s change of plea brings partial closure for the case, though the full trial for Houle remains ahead.
